I've recently taken upwardly sewing again. My great aunt taught me to sew as a teenager and I also took classes at school. Autonomously from making a cushion for the ladybird's nursery, ii and a half years ago, I've not used a sewing machine in at least xv years. Now that we have a scrap more space, I accept borrowed my bully aunt'south sewing machine and I am education myself to sew again. I've had a few difficulties getting started with this vintage sewing machine so this post is a cumulation of all the advice I accept found for this sewing machine.

This sewing auto is a Necchi Lydia iii and from the net, I have discovered they were final made in 1977. This machine is older than I am! I learnt to sew on this machine and information technology might audio odd merely when I use this machine it has a slight smell which takes me right back to my childhood. We spent a great deal of time with my bully aunt when I was growing up. We cooked, broiled, went on days out and did lots of crafts. She taught me to stitch and attempted to teach me to knit (I remember a lot of scarfs with holes!).

I started using the motorcar a couple of weeks agone, post-obit the only diagram on the internet I could find for threading this auto and I found the tension to be completely off. My sister-in-law had a look at the machine and we tried and tried to get the tension right with no success. We eventually got it working ok enough to sew together but over the side by side few times, I used information technology the tension was all over the place. Unfortunately, my corking aunt now has dementia and the pedagogy book is nowhere to be seen. And then I took to the internet. I found a really useful sewing forum, total of friendly and knowledgeable people who helped me out a lot and then I am going to share what I plant below for future reference and for anyone else who owns a Necchi Lydia iii.

First off I establish this useful video on youtube of how to load the bobbin.

This is a really useful four-part series that talks you through all the nuts (part 2 is the one that helped with my tension trouble).

  • Role ane,
  • part 2,
  • part 3 and
  • part 4.

An American facebook group for Necchi sewing auto users.

Necchi oil for oiling the machine is no longer bachelor simply after a bit of research I found some sites recommending using any skilful quality sewing machine oil similar Liberty oil or 2 options that have been suggested to me simply these aren't specifically sewing motorcar oils so I'd advise doing a bit more than inquiry before resorting to these – TriFlow, an equivalent synthetic oil with Teflon added or Cease Line Ceramic Wet Lube.
